Wiring Hot Wire
These wires hold the power.
Wiring hot wire. Black red and blue are used for hot wires and white is used as the neutral wire in a 120208 v circuit. Beginning at the lb fitting use fish tape to pull the wires from the fitting to the spa panel. This cable is called nmb cable. As we have learned from the basic wiring terminology page the black wires are hot.
Yellow and blue wires are sometimes used in more complicated circuits. The earliest residential wiring system has a cloth covered hot wire and a neutral wire which run parallel about a foot apart. The black wire is the hot wire which carries the electricity from the breaker panel into the switch or light source. During hot tub wiring copper wire is recommended with thhn thermoplastic nylon insulation.
Leave at least 6 inches of extra wire hanging from the spa panel. The source hot wire is connected to a switch terminal and the other terminal is connected to the black cable wire. The recommended hot tub wire size is 6 awg copper. Hot neutral ground wires in the us standard line voltage wiring is wrapped in plastic sheathed cables and usually has three conductors.
Brown orange and yellow are used as hot wires and gray is used as the neutral wire in a 277480 v. Ceramic tubes are used where wires cross or penetrate framing. These are called travelers and typically used for two way switch wiring. The neutral wire from the source is spliced to the white cable wire and continues on to the light.
Since red wires still conduct current they are considered hot. Connect the source wire to the bottom terminal of the switch and the other black wire to the top terminal. If they are they are used as hot wires to conduct current between switches and poles. These wires hold the power.
Thus both hot and neutral wires have the potential to shock and injure you.
