Performance Improvement Plan

It is implemented at the discretion of the manager when it becomes necessary to help a staff member improve their performance.

A performance improvement plan is a formal document stating any recurring performance issues along with goals that an employee needs to achieve in order to regain good standing at the company usually with a specific timeline to complete the plan. A pip shifts the responsibility for improving performance so that it is shared mutually among the manager the employee and the company. A performance improvement plan is a set of objectives that are assigned to an employee who has had a poor performance review they are designed to give an employee a chance to improve and can often be interpreted as a warning that dismissal is a likely outcome if improvement is lacking. Alternatively it could specify how the employee needs to change his behavior.
